Note sent out to our Friends in Faith in Christmas cards:

As most of you know the new PS3 is out and there was quite the rush at the stores. A news broadcast told of one store that had 50 people in line and only 25 units so they decided to have a race in to the store. In the process one young man was pushed and ran into a flagpole and had to be taken to the hospital. Later in the broadcast they had a segment on the Salvation Army red kettles. They had been put out that day and people were encouraged to start putting in their change. The news broadcaster then made the remark, "And one young man was trampled in the rush to the kettles." Of course he was being sarcastic. But, it sure struck a chord with me. People are asked to give change to those less fortunate and we have to be reminded to do it, but people are willing to run, run over, hurt, attack and rob to get the latest game player. My hope is in your heart you have the desire to run to Christ this Christmas season. That you will feel the need to get in the line, the line of those who are seeking, searching, following the star, searching for Christ.

Found Poem--created at Scarritt-Bennett, Nashville, TN during a spiritual writing workshop
based on three words/phrases pulled from another poem

If only
I could sleep soundly
I didn't wake up at the slighest noise
Then I wouldn't be at this point today

I guarded myself and those in our building
I listened in comfort while being uncomfortable
I watched from a distance-like a television show was outside my window.

If only
I were brave
I could have stepped out of my hiding place

Like her I bang on the doors
I cry out in pain, anguish, defeat, fear
I run silently from door to door and bang
but I don't escape my attacker--
the perpetrator is myself
